So, to kick off this all-new 30-day challenge, I ask: What was the last Tomb Raider game you played (or replayed)? Impressions? If you were replaying, how does the game hold up the second, third, or hundredth time through? Did you notice anything new or did you get farther than you did last time? Please comment below.
P.S. If you have ideas for future challenge questions, I'd love to hear them. We only have about 20 questions so far, and we need 30. So please share them here.
I'm currently replaying both TR3 and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. The former as part of the group play here: http://www.laracroftonline.net/index.php?showtopic=5901 and GoL with my buddy Treeble. He has graciously offered to help me finish my co-op walkthrough, and I've repaid him by living in a different time zone, having a crazy work schedule, a computer breakdown, a vacation, and two power outages. I'm a very bad co-op partner. :(
ReplyDeleteThat said, I'm enjoying both games a lot, even at the stupidly slow pace I've been playing. TR3 brings back a lot of great memories. Guardian of Light is always a blast. Love the light show and all the collectibles, and it's even more fun with a friend. :D
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. Liked it although it was a bit shoot-ey for my taste.
ReplyDeleteI'm really bad, I don't think I have played Tomb Raider in quite a while! I think the last one I played was GoL when it came out with my brother and that was a lot of fun :) I loved the illustrations and the look of it, and it was funny trying to work out the puzzles with my brother! I think we got stuck at one point though and never finished it :S
ReplyDeleteThe first TR I ever played was the classic one, for the Sega Saturn when I was 13 ou 14. I get into the Egypt but never passed the big water room with the statues because i just couldn't find the engine to low the water level !(forgive me for my english)
ReplyDeleteI've played the Tomb Raider 5 (I think it's the chronicles) and... sorry, but it sucked, compared with the first one! I've played also TR II, only one level left to finish the game. I liked it, but once again, nothing compared to the first one...
So, lately, me and my boy decided to turn on the Saturn and start to play TR, THE TR, lol! Well after 12 years, I still think it is an AMAZING game, it stills surprise me, it stills make my mouth open because it is such a fantastic game to play, to see, to apreciate! And now, because i'm older, i can have a more mature perception of it and compare with the actual videogame world. Oh, and finnaly, yesterday I've found where that damn engine is! Very well hidden in the patterns!!
So, as I'm playing, my boy is watching, and we talk about the game, think about it, about the all the concepts. "Look, the game producers found this solution, oh, that's a beautiful scenary, hey, such an intelligent puzzle, OH MY GOD, THIS IS FREAKIN SCARY!!"
It's being and amazing experience to re-game it!!! :D
Okay, I'm replaying at the moment TR3 for a group play at the adress which Stella posted before. Since TR3 is my favourite TR game, I can play it anytime and anywhere and I never get bored. I don't know which time I'm playing it, but it's my first TR game. I first saw it when I was 3, my uncle played it on PS. Back then, the only thing I knew is to start at a last savegame and shoot from every gun in inventory. I also played in Croft manor sometimes and I remember that when I first saw Winston saying "ah" I was so scared that I screamed and run all across the room. Nobody was home, so nobody heard me which was a relief since I was embarassed of that. Since then I never played in Croft Manor.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I really like this game. The levels I don't like so much are Madubu Gorge and London levels. The reason for the first one is because I'm terrible at kayaking and second because they are very difficult.
I discovered some places which I didn't, although I played this game like hundred of times. Some locations in Jungle and other levels, I was so surprised that I couldn't believe. xD
Before this, I remember I played TR4 and stopped becuase of the school. I was replaying all Classics since I never passed them all. I passed TR2 and TR3 (played them before TR4), but I stopped on TR4 and still I didn't replayed it again. I think I will next year on vacation since the school will start soon. And before TR2 and TR3 I don't remember. xD
If we are saying the last time that I played a Tomb Raider game then I would have to say a few hours ago. I am replaying Tomb Raider III and Tomb Raider Underworld on the DS and Wii. :)
ReplyDeletei'm playing tr 3 at the moment. im only playing it the 2nd time round and i have discovered some hidden items on the jungle level that i had never known about before. out of all the tr games i have gathering dust in my bedroom>>>tr 1,2,3,4,angel of darkness, legend, underwold and anniversary i have STILL not managed to complete a single game. tr 3 is defo my fave tr game its just you have way more weapon choice, there are more levels and well everything is better. (especiall lara's body on the whole). i just find there is something magical about the way she runs.
ReplyDeletethe only reason my life is devoted to tomb raider is because that is the only game i am good at. lol. lara is my godess I WORSHIP HER. nah im just kidding
Last game I played was Tomb Raider Chronicles, not very long ago with my best friend Luka. It was a blast we where playing it together, well not at the same place but using a head-set. It was fun, but before that we played TR4 and personally that one was was much more fun to play this way than Chronicles, but both where enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking to replay TR2 (MY FAVORITE FROM CLASSICS) or maybe Anniversary (MY FAVORITE FROM NEWER GAMES) I will decide soon though. ;)
After completing TR3 for the second time, past may, for a week now "The last revelation". Actually I've never completed TR4 before so I'm really looking forward to it :)
ReplyDeleteI'm playing TR1 currently for the first time and I call myself a hardcore TR fan, LOL! XD Before that I played Chronicles with my best friend Eldin and it was great, remembering great memories from our childhoods! *__*
ReplyDeleteRecently lmost finished Underworld on PS3. Made it through to the final level when I realized I was missing 2 artifacts that could increase my health level (thanks for that info Stella!). Had to go back to (I think), level 6 (Lara's basement/crypt). Ended up in the final level before the end and had to put it aside. After trying to get the artifact behind the deadly blue water fall about 70 times (not kidding!) I just got so frustrated that I quit. I hate when some things are so difficult to accomplish that you have to do them over and over and over. Don't have the patience anymore for that. I'll probably pick it up again and finish though (after completing Darksiders II on PS3).
ReplyDeleteThe other last game I played was Guardian - absolutely HATED this game! Traded it in shortly after buying it. Again, couldn't get past a certain point after trying for what seems like forever. Came to the conclusion that anything that difficult to accomplish is not worth my very limited time.
Bought the first four TR's for PS3 and that was a mistake. Thought I would be able to use the controller, but you can only use the arrow buttons. Very difficult to control and you can't save the game unless you go and buy a special memory stick from Sony. Not going to happen. All in all, I am waiting patiently for the new TR - LOOKS AWESOME!!!
I'm currently replaying The Lost Artifact! I love those levels, they are so intense and you even get rewarded with one of the craziest level in the whole series. :)
ReplyDeleteuuh I just had to correct myself, golden mask is the game I'm playing...
ReplyDeleteTomb Raider Anniversary and before that i have finished TR3. That was in June. TR is great anti stress game :)
ReplyDeleteI just finished Anniversary on the PS3 a few days ago, and I was able to retrieve more artifact and relics than I ever have before. I’ve completed the game four or five times now, but this is the first time I’ve played on the console. Up to this point, I’ve always played on the PSP. I love my PSP, but the controls (particularly the camera controls) are not up those on the PS3. While playing the Obelisk of Kahmoon in Egypt level, I was finally able to get to the artifact #4 in the mummy room. I’ve never been able to get this artifact on the PSP. I’m sure other PSP players have gotten this artifact, but I could never get the timing and jump point right. On the PS3, I nailed it the first time.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently playing Last Revelation for the first time through, and I love it so far. It has the same feel as the first three, but a lot more smooth.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if it was Tomb Raider 1 or Anniversary I played last as I was sort of doing them at the same time. I recently got a PSP and I got Anniversary for it and I was also playing Tomb Raider 1 on it. Anniversary is still an awesome game (Not as awesome as it is on consoles thanks to control problems though) I got all Artefacts apart from 1 and all the relics in one playthrough.
ReplyDeleteTomb Raider 1 is still as awesome as ever and I never get bored of it. I got all the secrets (With a few reminders from Stella's walkthrough) It still plays great and is still my all time favourite Tomb Raider game.
So far this year i have replayed Underworld, TR2, TR3 and actually i´m replaying the classic TR1 :)
ReplyDeleteI will always love TR series.
The last Tomb Raider games that I have played were Tomb Raider III and Tomb Raider The Last Revelation and I was playing them in turns kind of at the same time. These two are my absolute favorites in the series, especially TR3, and I have been wanting to replay them since a very long time, but my life is just so busy, that I very rarely get to replay games. Actually, I have also stopped playing TR3 and TRLR since several months now, even though I'm still not done replaying them. The reason is just that I don't have enough time to play and I should use the time I have to play to experience new games. TR3 I have played up until the level "Madubu Gorge" (after India, I played Nevada and then South Pacific), and TRLR I have played up until the level "Desert Railroad". Actually, in a way, I just stopped playing when the games were starting to get really good! :P "Madubu Gorge" is one of my favorite levels of all time of any game, and also, the Alexandria levels form TRLR offer some of the best game experiences as well. Hopefully, some time, I will get the opportunity to finish what I have started and finish my second playthroughs of these two amazing games!
ReplyDeleteAs to answer the question that how I felt about these replays: I think that, after all these years, TR3 and TRLR are still two of the very finest examples of how an action-adventure game should be. These days, rarely you see the variety that is offered by TR3, and rarely you see an adventure game challenging your mind the way that TRLR does. Sad really.
Just as a correction, in my last paragraph, by "adventure", I meant "action-adventure". :P
ReplyDeleteTomb Raider IV in these days (since you can play PSOne games ov PS Vita). Before that GoL (not a real TR on my opinion), and TRIII on PSP.
ReplyDeleteHmm last TR game I played...it's been a while, I believe it was GOL, if not counting that then TR2 :) I suppose i'll just have to replay the whole series :p
ReplyDeleteReplayed the trilogy a few of months ago.
ReplyDeleteLegend, I just replayed it
