From its debut in October 1996 on the Sega Saturn to the upcoming TOMB RAIDER for Windows PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, Tomb Raider games have been released on many different gaming systems over the years. Which is your preferred system for playing Tomb Raider and why?
I like the PC with the Xbox 360 a close second. I guess I cut my gaming teeth on the computer, and I like the added bonuses of being able to swap save files and take screenshots and video fairly easily. Nothing against PlayStation (or Mac), I just don't happen to own one. Maybe someday....
ReplyDeleteAlso, I did enjoy the added small puzzles in the Wii version of Anniversary and wouldn't mind seeing more of that in the future. Not sure if Crystal intends to develop for the Wii U at all though.
Mine is the PlayStation 1, It's where I first played TR1-5 and it is down as my favourite console of all time. I have so many memories of playing it on PS1 from the first time I got destroyed by the axes and the T-Rex to getting owned by the Dragon. It was just an awesome time on an awesome console.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to play it on the PC and PlayStation. When I can get Tomb Raider to run on my PC I always prefer to do it that way however in the past I have had problems with running it and so I play it on the PlayStation. I have had troubles with working TRU on my PC mainly so I bought the game for my Xbox 360 which I also use to play Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. I have thought many times about buying a PSP and playing TRA and Legend on it. I do own a Wii with Anniversary and Underworld on it because I like the interactivity in it like the wall rubbing and solving puzzles with the remote.
ReplyDeleteI guess PlayStation because that was the first system that I played the first Tomb Raider game when I was 4. I always played the later games on PS2 which was nice. Except for Underworld. Underworld on PS2 was a huge disappointment for me. I would rather them not even offer it in ps2 if it was going to be that awful. Anyways, I think my favorite system would be ps2 because I could play the first PlayStation games on it. :]
ReplyDeleteI'm a PC gamer through and through. Mouse and keyboard are my preferred input devices and I never really got used to using a controller, so PC it is for me.
ReplyDeletePlus, on the PC you have the added bonus of being able to play fan levels. :)
using the keyboard on the pc is fine but that
ReplyDeleteplaystation controller just fits so perfectly in my hand that I can't go back to anything else. Prefer the ps2 for tr 1-5 because of the "smoothing" in the graphics that the ps3 just doesn't do as well.
Me for playing Tomb Raider i'd prefer Keyborad and Mouse because of the feel of the gameply yes i do lay on Playstation 3 also cause the controller buttons are easyer (for me to use)but i like the abilty to Have my house on it's higest when shooting or Aiming
ReplyDeleteI've played it only on PC, so I guess I don't have a variety of choices.
ReplyDeleteI love the pc. To this day there's still nothing that comes even close to its versatility and it simply has by far the best graphics for gaming. Very expensive (compared to a console) but building your own top notch gaming platform is part of the fun. I do like force feedback and the ergonomics of Xbox 360 hand controller though, so I use one of those with the pc for some games (Tomb raider, Assasins's Creed, etc) and a gaming keyboard and mouse for others.
ReplyDeleteI´m a PC player. Playing TR 1-5 on the keyboard its like having an extension of my own body :P
ReplyDeleteAnd at the time of using the camera in Crystal Dynamics games, I can´t compare the facility of using it with the mouse than with the PS controller.
I have played all the Tomb Raider games on the PC and in general, I always prefer to play any game on the PC. Even if I want to play with a controller, I can just plug in one into my PC. If there had not been any console exclusive games that are really important to me, I had never bought any consoles.
ReplyDeleteI personally enjoy playing on the PC
ReplyDeleteBecause I have more customization options when it comes to mods and patches and such
I think that the PC's graphics are sooooo much BETTER as well
I also enjoy playing the custom levels
I didn't even think to ask about the controller as a separate factor. I like the keyboard for the classic TRs--probably because I'm used to it, but I feel like I can control Lara pretty well that way. I much prefer an Xbox 360 controller for the Crystal Dynamics games. I use it for both PC and Xbox. Nothing against the PlayStation style controller or other types. I just haven't tried them so have no opinion.
ReplyDeleteGood point about bonus (gold) and custom levels, Joshua. The Xbox also has the Underworld bonus levels. They really need to put all the extra official levels out for PlayStation...maybe a good challenge topic for some future day. ;)
defo playing tr 1-4 on ps1 only coz i know the controls off by heart. but then again i learn controls quickly. i only played anniversary yesterday and i already learned the controls
ReplyDeleteI've played all of the games on Playstation, and since most of the classics were on PS1, I'd have to nominate that. The newer systems seems to encourage graphics over gameplay which for a TR game is bad news, IMO.
ReplyDeleteI've played Underworld on both PS3 and Xbox. They xbox probably moves a little faste, but I think the PS3 probably had a sharper image. I prefer the Xbox because of the two downloadable levels.
ReplyDeleteI will always prefer the PC. The movement with keyboard is almost natural to me. For the older games, that need extensive tweaking to run on todays PCs, and for TRU that never worked properly on PC I use PS 1 and 2.
ReplyDeleteHmm. It is definitely possible to get all of them running perfectly on todays PC, with a little research (not to much work..). I even managed to get most of them running on top of Linux (although not perfect). On a windows pc however I don't think I have run in to any major problems, except maybe getting the "rumble" or "force feedback" support working for a hand controller in the PC-version. If I remember correctly it was still possible to get it working running it on top of a PSI-emulater, but doing so also gave you the poorer PSI graphics.
ReplyDeleteI started sort of in the middle with Anniversary on PS2 as a challenge from my son. He laughed at me because I was so inept at controlling Lara on a Playstation in a gaming shop. Once I beat him at both Anniversary and Legend (well you have to win if the challenge is there ;0) ) I bought a PS1 and TR 1-5, the games are fabulous to play and the graphics get better as each game develops. I tried the PC but I couldn't control the mouse well enough and the feedback to a controller was too slow. Anniversary on the Wii, is fun as you're actually freehand aiming to shoot and a flick of the wrist launches the grapple. I'm now a big PS3 fan and can't wait for the release of the new Tomb Raider, onwards and upwards but the PS2 will always be my firm favourite with PS1 a close second. Thanks to you Stella whatever the console, TR will always be my favourite game to play!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the PS2 because I have all the games on there apart from Underworld (which is on Xbox 360). I have the core games 1-5 on the pc but I find the controls on the keyboard harder to use :P I prefer a handheld controller!
ReplyDeletePC, I think I enjoy the controls the most. It seems more enjoyable to me for some reason, maybe because I grew up playing it on PC. I do like the other television systems/hook-ups though.
ReplyDeleteI started with PS1 and eventually moved up to PS2, now I'm trying to decide if I want to move on to the PS3 or go to Xbox 360. Haha.
ReplyDeleteProbably PS3 though. ;)
I love the PC because I feel up-close to all the action. But I play the CD games on Xbox 360 because my laptop is poop.
ReplyDeleteIt might be worth mentioning that I bought an Xbox 360 over a PS3 because of Underworld's exclusive DLC. I hope Crystal Dynamics learned their lesson. :p
I own all them all apart from GOL on PC, I also own TR7, TRA and TR8 with all DLC on the Xbox 360 :) PC is my favourite up to TRA, my laptop struggles with TR8 so I'll say Xbox for that one :p The reason I prefer TR7 and TRA on my PC is because it's far less glitchy on it :)
ReplyDeletePS2, primarily because it's the only Sony system that can play Angel of Darkness since they removed backwards compatibility on the PS3.
ReplyDeleteI played on the PC for a while, but then I moved to the Xbox and liked it a lot more, mainly because the controller is easier to use than a keyboard, and I can use it more easily. I've never played on the Play Station, and I never intend to.
