UPDATE: This month-long challenge has officially finished, but you're still welcome to post your comments below at any time. We'd love to hear what you think.
I know it's a big topic, but since we covered parody yesterday, it seemed only fair to ask about tribute today. So please share your favorite fan art, fiction, video, custom level or other Tomb Raider tribute. If it's too difficult to narrow down to just one, go ahead and post a few links.
The original topic for day 29 will be incorporated into tomorrow's final challenge. Thanks to Marie, JeniRaider and Ostercy for suggesting elements of today's topic.
There are so many, many, many great pieces of fan fiction, art, video tributes, etc., out there, that I couldn't begin to pick just one favorite. Edtadeo's Tarzan-inspired scene (above) is the one I like best this morning, but each time I see or read another fan's inspired work, I change my mind. Fortunately I don't *have* to choose. What a talented bunch you raiders are!
ReplyDeleteThere's so much fan fiction at fanfiction.net and so much (non-XNALara) artwork at deviantart.com that it's impossible to choose. However, if you find you do like something, leave the creator a note. It makes all the difference :)
ReplyDeleteI think I like fan made videos and art pieces. It's good to know Lara has lots of fans when you see all the fan made things.
ReplyDeleteThere is so much fan work, from drawings to music remixes, animations, stories...
ReplyDeleteI love lots of them, but I can only remember one that I especially like: it's a video featuring a custom animation based on TR Underworld, intitled "How Combat Should Look Like in TR IX". It's really good, enjoyable, a bit exaggerated, but still very cool. Here's the link!

Until we started discussing it on this blog, I hadn't really viewed a lot of fan art and I hadn't read any fan fiction at all. Now, after a few hours of surfing around and checking it out I see that (1) I'm hardly qualified to answer today's question, and (2) now I know how I'll keep myself entertained until the next game comes out. :)
ReplyDeleteI can´t think of one piece of fanart that I´d rate as my favorite, Nicobass at deviantart has created some lovely pieces, like this remake of my favorite Lara pic:

James Croft is another deviantartist doing renders, and I like these ones in particular:

While it may not count as fanart, I´m also partial to some of the Lara art that Adam Hughes has done for PSM Magazine and the comics as well as con sketches, one thing I like about his version is that he equips Lara with various extra gear like a machete, a flashlight and spare clips in her belt, it really adds to the adventurer look, though it also ruins the symmetry of her design.

I LOVE allot of fan made things but I think my fav category would be the custom levels made my literally the thousands of fans
ReplyDeletethey are all so well designed too so that in it self is still hard to pin point really I would say to many just visit this site http://www.aspidetr.com/index.php?section=levels and take a look in the levels section
I don't want to sound cocky, but I really enjoy my own stuff, it's really fun to write. http://www.youtube.com/QueAwkwardNoises
ReplyDeleteThat's my channel. Some stuff on there. I really like Katie Fleming's writing and screenshots. http://www.tombraiders.net/katie/
Anything on here. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/
And of course, (not sure if they count :P) Stella's walkthroughs! http://tombraiders.net/
i agree with stellalune, there's so many, and every one of them are great.
ReplyDeleteUp until now, based on previous experiences, I thought that all fan artwork had something to do with the infamous Nude Raider or some sexual thing.
ReplyDeleteNow I've changed my mind, but still I haven't seen enough to express a valid opinion. However I agree that all of them are vry nice work and some even spectacular.

Is the most amazing video tribute I've ever seen.
I really like these:

But my favorites that I've seen so far are illustrations that are in a Salvador Dali style. I'm not sure who the artist is and I thought I originally saw it on the Offical Tomb Raider Blog, but now I can't find it. :(
Again there is another anonymous, but what I want to talk about is that I have more or less talent for inventing the levels in my head, I have maintained levels invented in my head, where I can download one of those programs?, as they are used?.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous: Do you mean the TR Level Editor? You can download that from my site at http://tombraiders.net/stella/trle.html. That page also includes a link to the PDF manual and a bunch of sites with tutorials, help forums, fan-created levels, etc. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteLike I said before, my own fan fiction, that includes Allister as Lara's cousin, as well as his brother Allan, and another cousin Alice. I don't feel like posting them, and they're not a parody, so I might take out that comment.
