Underworld $7.49 Special on Steam

If you're a PC gamer and haven't already tried Tomb Raider: Underworld, this could be the offer that clinches the deal. Valve's Steam download service is offering Underworld at 75% off its already reduced price, but only until Monday. If you have a Steam account, just log on and check the latest Update News. Otherwise, visit the Steam site to join. Or, go right to the Underworld page for more details.

I can't think of a better way to to spend a snowy weekend than adventuring with Lara. If you already own the game, you may be interested to know that Steam also has a gift-giving option so you can share the Tomb Raider fun with a friend. :D

  1. i haven't bought any of the official games since Chronicles. Well, i take that back, i bought anniversary for my son (and was rather disappointed). Basically since chronicles, i've either revisited the old games or spent all my time playing online custom LE levels. Tell me the truth, am i really missing out having not gotten into any of the newer TR games?

  2. I rather enjoyed Anniversary (the TR1 remake). The others I can take or leave. They've got some lovely scenery, and Lara's moves have evolved quite a bit. She's actually DOING the things we imagined her doing in the old games. ;) But the three most recent titles are VERY linear and nowhere near as challenging and immersive as the classics.

So, no, I wouldn't advise you to run out and get them. But if you happen to have a system that'll run them (console or higher-end PC), and have some free time, they're getting cheaper. And they aren't BAD games—just not as great as some of the others.

Of course, that's just my 2 cents. I'm sure other people will have other input. Just peruse the "love/hate" threads on any TR message board and you'll probably get a good idea of the various titles' pros and cons.

  3. P.S. to Guy: I don't know if you've tried it, but I just finished Lego Indiana Jones on the Xbox 360, and it was so much fun! You and your son might enjoy playing that together. It's got some tombraider-ish puzzle solving, lots of exploration and discovery, plenty of action and pretty decent graphics.

  4. It sounds fun. But i don't have a 360. =o) i've been strictly a PC gamer ever since the days of nintendo 64. (Well, i take that back, i've been invited to lots of rock band parties and played other people's consoles.) Thanks though.

  5. There's a PC version of the Lego Indy game as well. I played the PC demo first but ended up buying the full game for the 360. The 2-player co-op mode seems easier on the Xbox but it can be done on the PC as well. Take care. :)
