It's...This is Tomb Raider for a new generation. It's no different than all the different iterations of Batman. Each version is legitimate, so why can't Tomb Raider be like that.

Gamers of today are a different breed. Many of the gameplay mechanics that older gamers, such as myself, would put up with would not fly in today's climate. I appreciate what Crystal Dynamics is doing with Tomb Raider because without them there never would have been Tomb Raider Anniversary or Lara Croft & The Guardian of Light. The only aspect of their games that I feel is lacking is in total play time.

Other than that, this new game is coming along quite well, me thinks. They have the budget that only a big company like SquareEnix could give them, which was severely lacking in previous games, combined with solid gameplay, and I think enough units will sell to generate new fans to keep the IP going to create even better games in the future. Prior to this reboot, Tomb Raider was seen as a bit of a joke amongst younger gamers and interest had waned. Now, the comments section of gaming sites and forums are filled with excitement for the new game.

The only complaints that I see are coming from the old Core Design fanboys and fangirls. Seriously, get over it!

Your friendly neighbourhood, Entombed RaiderAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-203486658912585901.post-25857532284991900302012-06-24T21:37:29.914-04:002012-06-24T21:37:29.914-04:00"Some of us who continued playing computer ga..."Some of us who continued playing computer games as they progressed past the 90's might actually consider that not being enough for buying a game anymore."

Absolutely true. This happens in every genre. Some FPS fans still whine about how great it was back in the day when it was just simple: find a key for the blue door, and then for the red door... But no one would actually buy that game anymore.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-203486658912585901.post-16166162682306144852012-06-13T20:51:18.459-04:002012-06-13T20:51:18.459-04:00I'm starting to think many of us that played T...I'm starting to think many of us that played TR from the beginning just like to whine alot for the sake whinning. Here is some great exampels.

"but explore wih a purpose. In her first games, that was searching for the next button, the next lever that opened up her path"

Some of us who continued playing computer games as they progressed past the 90's might actually consider that not being enough for buying a game anymore. Absolutely not making up for lack of story, lack of concept, lack of depth in the characters or whatnot. All of that stuff that were typical for games coming out of that era.

"It was the gameplay that made Lara great."

What gameplay? Spending minutes looking for a lever to pull, or incredibly akward to manouver and frustrating combat situations. Again classical TR games falls short in that department compared to many of todays games.. like for example Assassin's Creed.

"Finally, I would like to commemorate all the boulders that would come against you when you least expected it. Or hawk, shark, eel, oxen or what have you. Where have they gone?"

Did you really spend some time playing Legend or Underworld? Plenty of boulders coming at ya in Legend, and I dare guess more sharks in Underworld than any earlier TR game (still I haven't counted them yet). And of course lots of bats, bugs, spiders as usual. Only thing I take issue with for those games is, they were much to short and easy to play through. They could be considered as linear, but not so much by comparing them to older TR games as with todays open world games (Again AC is a briliant example of a modern open world game. If the new TR even comes close, I'm a happy camper). The older TR games merely gave the player the illusion of being open world, while not actually being it at all.

"It's great to hear that CD has opened up a channel to the fans. Please use it for the things that truly matters.""

It's kind of late for that now. The game is finished. Hence we are seeing a lot of trailers or clips of gameplay.

"Maybe this is too much nostalgia, but the legacy was never so much about Lara's length or even her appearance."

Whoever said it was. Selecting one particular topic for discussion doesn't mean you actually thinks that is what it's all about.

If anything, I'm starting to admire the guys at CD for the amout of BS they are facing, and still they put in their best efforts to make this game for us.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-203486658912585901.post-44871815715067399062012-06-13T19:00:09.776-04:002012-06-13T19:00:09.776-04:00Sadly, the questions and answers are all a bunch o...Sadly, the questions and answers are all a bunch of blah, blah. I really hope the ambassadors and the fans can do better. Crystal Dynamics hasn't done so well in the past. They've got some praise by critics, but in actuality gamers tend towards lukewarmness when it comes to their games. They are passable - not thrilling.

They lack vision and a true understanding of what made lara great in the first place. If you don't know what made Lara great, you don't know her legacy either.

To me it's all about gameplay. Lara is an explorer, therefore she should explore, not roaming around in a beautiful environment, but explore wih a purpose. In her first games, that was searching for the next button, the next lever that opened up her path. Also, the maps should be open. When we saw those cutscenes of a door opening, when we pulled a lever and didn't quite know where it was, it was brilliant.

I fear Lara will not be free in the upcoming title. I fear she will be "pushed" along the linear path CD has chosen for her and we will hear the dreadful "pings" as a check point is passed.

Finally, I would like to commemorate all the boulders that would come against you when you least expected it. They have come up with a great idea for the next installment of TR, but they don't know the first thing about gameplay or Lara's legacy.

Regards from a somewhat frustrated fan of Lara
Robert, NorwayAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-203486658912585901.post-61065922096024206432012-06-12T17:31:18.481-04:002012-06-12T17:31:18.481-04:00I guess I pictured Lara as being the same height a...I guess I pictured Lara as being the same height as Angelinga, even though I played the games long before there were any plans of making movies at all... I'm 5'3" and chunky and I usually try to talk my way out of a fight. My Lara is modern day amazon.. I'm 182 and built like a toothpick, and I would still use smarts and athleticism going into a fight with a man, because, regardless of lenght I still have considerably less muscle mass than any man, and many shorter women. I don't go into fights with anyone though, except in gaming.. :)Rebeccahttp://url.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-203486658912585901.post-77890491302070659032012-06-09T14:54:28.374-04:002012-06-09T14:54:28.374-04:00Meagan is amazing. It's on Crystal's TR blog at http://officialtombraiderblog.tumblr.com/post/23741878303/e3-2012-community-ambassador-initiative-happy

They had to make a few last-minute changes in the roster due to passport snafus and such. Jaden's sister went in her stead, and Ashley Quenan represented Tomb Raider Forums since she lives here in the States and was able to travel. I don't know if everyone else on the original list made it.

Basically the ambassadors were chosen by Crystal, with Meagan doing most of the organizing AFAIK. The goal was to pick representatives from the main online TR communities worldwide to bring their members' questions to the developers and then report back to their communities from E3.

I was in on some of the early planning, so if you'd like to drop me an email I can tell you a little more about the process. Or you can ask Meagan directly.Stellalunehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03782486742546192464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-203486658912585901.post-30499729495512294912012-06-08T09:14:44.330-04:002012-06-08T09:14:44.330-04:00Is there a list of the people present?
