Hello and Goodbye to Lara Croft: Reflections

Lara Croft: Reflections, the mobile card battle game announced last year, has been cancelled before its worldwide launch. The game premiered in the Australia-New Zealand iTunes Store and ran for just a few months. Today developer RenRen Games said it will no longer be supporting the game as of August 4th.

If you had a chance to play it, I'd be interested to hear your review. I'm also curious how Tomb Raider fans feel about periperhal titles like this card game, the Tomb Raider video slots, and even arcade games like Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. Is more Lara always a good thing, or should the developers focus on making triple-A titles and forget about the side projects?

  1. Lara Croft and the Guardina of Light was great and probably my favorite of the Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider games. I don't know about the rest. In general, side projects are good, as long as the results are good. ;) On the other hand, if Crystal Dynamics is going to continue with the Tomb Raider Series on a triple-A level as a third-person shooter instead of an action-adventure, like their last game, then I wish to never go through the pain of seeing another triple-A Tomb Raider game from Crystal Dynamics again. Unless, of course, they bring back Tomb Raider to the action-adventure genre, and thus bring my favorite game series back to life again. The world needs this, 'couse there's, unfortunately, nothing like it available anymore.

    1. I completely agree. I loved LCGOL and would much prefer to see a sequel to that game than another game along the lines of TR 2013. I hope the devs are hearing the fans. I want them to be successful so the franchise can continue, but not if it means more third-person shooters starring Lara Croft. Tomb Raider was such a unique series. I hope they actually reboot the TR we love next time.

    2. And I completely agree with you! :) Stella, do you know if Crystal Dynamics is going to be at E3 this year?

    3. I heard they will be making an announcement tomorrow around 11 a.m. PDT (18:00 GMT), but this may or may not have anything to do with Tomb Raider. They've said they're working on a new project as well, so the announcement may be about that.

    4. OK, thank you for the information! Here is hoping that, whatever it is, it's going to be good! :)

I really wish for Crystal Dynamics to get on the right track again. Soul Reaver 2, Tomb Raider Anniversary, Underworld and Guardian of Light are four of my favorite games and even though they can't touch Tomb Raider III and Last Revelation for me, Crystal Dynamics used to be one of my favorite game developers. I hate to say this, but since Tomb Raider 2013 I feel quite a bit of hate towards them, but I really don't wanna feel that way about Crystal Dynamics. So, I'm very curious about what comes next.
