30-Day Tomb Raider Challenge Day 3: Favorite Trap or Hazard

In last year's challenge, we talked about our favorite Tomb Raider enemies and puzzles. But how about the traps? Which of the numerous hazards Lara has encountered do you love/hate the most and why?

  1. My favorite would have to be the hand of Midas in TR1 and Anniversary. It's easy enough to avoid but why would you want to? ;)

  2. Truth be told, why on Earth would someone want to avoid the hand of Midas trap? :P

My favourite trap, however, is the trap gauntlet of Temple of Xian. xD

  3. My favorite is - hands down - the moment from TR2 in Temple of Xian where Lara has to run across a skinny platform above a pit of bubbling lava as a boulder threatens her from behind. I think what you are *supposed* to do is jump off the edge of the platform and land on the massive dragon statue, but the first time I played, I successfully rolled at the edge and grabbed the platform's ledge, dangling above the pit of lava as the boulder rolled past.

My favorite Tomb Raider moment - ever.

  6. My favorite was in The Great Pyramid level in The Last Revalation, the part where you enter various codes using giant heiroglyphs and the wrong code opens the door to (as my friend and I named it) The Room of Death Death Death! A series of trap filled corridors with no purpose.

  7. my favourite trap has to be boulders coz sometimes you just dont see or hear them coming behind you. i like the boulder trap in tr 1 unfinished buisiness on the hive level. i found it really tough to get past because i have slower reactions and its coz i never played tr on my laptop before, so yeah. boulder death is quite cool just coz she says "ooh" when she gets made into pancake lara. lolz.. oh well ;D

  10. My favourite would be the Trap room in Mexico in Tomb Raider Underworld. I love how the gameplay motion slows down and how it gets you adrenalin pumping. I found that really fun.

Another favourite of mine is the trap in the Temple of Puna in Tomb Raider 3 where Lara pulls a lever and has to escape two boulders about to crush her and also with a tricky turn accompanied by an unfair camera angle. That was really fun. Very Indiana Jones like. :)

  11. My favorite traps are the atlas, neptune, thor and democles rooms of the level St Fracis' Folly, in TR1 original.
Its very funny to discover the way to resolve the traps in the rooms and get the four keys for the first time :)

  13. I would say most irresistible was the Hand of Midas - You KNEW what it did, but you had to try it anyway.

  14. The first boulder in TR3, right on the beggining - the one on the slide with spikes. It's very simple trap, I know, but I still remember when I played the game for first time, wanted to get the medipack and shotgun ammo and I was so scared by the boulder right behind me...

  15. In TR3, the Temple of Puna had these really, really sharp rolling discs. First time through...just brutal.

  16. I LOVE the different rooms in St. Francis' Folly. The first time I played it, they were so intimidating, haha. But it's fun to go through them and see how they're represented.

  18. I think it's a series of traps in the first level of Tomb Raider 2, The Great Wall. The moment when you cross the room with water and then to the other area where ground is shaking, and then tree boulders comes after you. When you escape them, the spikes are coming to each other and you have to jump quick to the exit of the room. Then there are a lot of spikes again, and finally you have to stay on a ground which is shaking an fall to the exit of all traps. I really like that part in TR2.

  19. I think mine is the boulder. Terrified me as a kid and it's just such a classic trap for tombs. I also loved the gauntlet of traps in the first level of TR2 and Temple of Xian. Awesome moments!

  20. Also! The part in Cleopatr's Palace in TRLR where tgere's a golden statue Lara and you have to keep her from taking damage/shooting her or else the real Lara takes damage, kind of a throwback to Bacon Lara. ;)

  21. I don't know if these count as traps, but two of my favorite trap-like-challenge-moments in Tomb Raider III are the deadly situations that you had to avoid on the "Madubu Gorge" level while maneuvering the kayak, and also the deadly situations that you had to avoid on the "RX-Tech Mines" level while riding mine cars. :)

  23. Any Boulder, they always scare me and still do, They are almost always so sudden and can be hard to dodge because of it. It's such a classic Trap as well. Another one that I find terrifying is whenever the ceiling is coming down with spikes and you have to pull the lever to open the door to get out. I would always panic and run around and then die.
