Crystal Dynamics Brand Manager Discusses Guardian of Light

Crystal Dynamics' Karl Stewart spoke with Giant Bomb at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco last week about Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.

According to Stewart, the goal was to try something new and hopefully appeal to a wider audience, while simultaneously raising the bar on what an arcade title can be.

He also discussed the differences between the co-op and single-player games and stressed that along with fun and challenging two-player action, the developers are striving to "bring that sort of solitary experience that some Tomb Raider fans absolutely love." So in the co-op game, you really do need to cooperate in order to succeed. "In the single player experience," Stewart explains, "you get different equipment and we use physics throughout the world to be able to give you new puzzles. So it's almost like playing two different games within in the same world."

  1. Hi! This is Dennis (Bimbo Boy). I just wanted to say I love your blog! It's great to get the latest news. I can't wait for the new game. I'm even getting a PS3 so I can play it. ;)

By the way, "Underworld" still doesn't work for me on Wii, even though I've tried two different games. So I got a refund and bought the PS3 version instead. :)

  2. I was curious if you knew when we will see a new Tomb Raider game in the future that isn't a digital download?

  3. No news yet, Anonymous, but until we hear otherwise, I think we can assume that "Tomb Raider 9" (actual title and release date still unkown) will be available on DVD, probably for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, and possibly as a download as well. That's my guess anyway. As soon as I know more, I'll post it here.
