Team Tomb Raider Community Raised $2,809 for Extra Life!

As you probably know, last weekend a bunch of us raiders got together to play games for Extra Life, a charity videogame marathon to benefit Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Together we raised. . . drumroll please. . . $2,809!

Along with $2,039 in direct donations through our Extra Life team page, the Custom Tomb Raider Xbox 360 Bundle donated by our wonderful benefactors at Crystal Dynamics sold on eBay for $770! Congratulations and thanks to the winning bidder, Jay from Hawaii. Jay, you're a gentleman and an angel, as well as a hardcore fan. :D

I'd also like to thank everyone on our team—Nora, Hunter, Phill, Laura, Sinead, Bill, Scott, Colin, Amanda, Daryl, Nick and David—as well as the other gamers who played on our Extra Life livestream—Mark, Nath, Luka, Liam, and my wingman (wingwoman?), Queen Crispy—and of course everyone who tuned in, helped spread the word, and donated generously. I love you all!

If you missed the event itself, it's not too late to show your support. Extra Life's organizers are hoping to top the $4 MILLION mark over the next few days. So if you can spare even a few dollars, your help would be much appreciated. For more info about the event, visit Extra-Life.org. To donate, click the banner above.

If you'd like to join the team and play with us next year, just send me an email or tweet (@stellalune) and I'll add you to the roster. I'll be contacting everyone next September to plan for Extra Life 2014.

Thank you for your support! Tomb Raider fans are the best!

  2. I think a round of (virtual) applause is in order. Well done, everyone! I'm so happy that you were able to meet your target in the end. :-D

I'd love to sign up for next year's Extra Life marathon but I'm not sure I'll be able to host the livestream. Is it possible to play TR on your own as part of this team event? How do I prove that I'm taking part in the marathon?

    1. Thanks, Kelly. I really appreciate all you did for us this time. It would be awesome if you joined the team next year. :D

You don't need to participate in the livestream to do Extra Life. You can play any type of game—single player, multiplayer, co-op, online or off, alone or with friends, whatever. Most play video games, but there are groups that do tabletop games, people who play on their mobiles, and many who combine all sorts of things. Some play straight through the marathon; some put in the hours over several days. It's all on the honor system. I just organized the livestream as a way for us to come together as a community and for people who can't do the fund-raising part to get involved.

I'll gladly answer any questions by email/tweet, but basically when they open registration for next year (probably in July) you'll register on the Extra Life site and join a team if you like. Then you'll go about collecting donations from friends, family, co-workers, etc. They can donate online through your Extra Life page, or you can collect cash/check donations and either submit them yourself online or mail them in using a form Extra Life provides.

Most of the work is done by the time the marathon rolls around. Then we play!

Extra Life has an FAQ here with more info - http://bit.ly/17JU26I. I'm also happy to answer questions. I really hope you'll join us next time.

    2. I'm glad I could help in my own little way. I hope all the nagging over the past few weeks paid off. ;-)

Sign me up for next year's marathon! Even if I can't join the livestream, I'd love to be on the team. I've bookmarked this blog post for future reference. Roll on November 2014!

I got the TR lapel pin - very smart - and wore it at my local pub.

This reminded a friend that he had promised a donation, which he gave me there and then.

An extra $10 onto my donations just for wearing the pin - well worth it!
