Tomb Raider 30-day Challenge Day 10: Have you read any of the books? If so, which ones?

UPDATE: This month-long challenge has officially finished, but you're still welcome to post your comments below at any time. We'd love to hear what you think.

In addition to the games and movies, the Tomb Raider franchise has spawned dozens of tie-in novels and comics, not to mention art books, collectible compilations and game guides. Which ones have you read, or are you partial to the digital forms?

The Tomb Raider Compendium includes the first 50 issues of the Top Cow comic. Click for a larger image of the cover.

  1. Actually No, I haven't I mostly play the games. I've known about the comics but I guess I never really felt compelled to read them
I might see if I can find the Compendium collection to really see what I've been missing.

  2. I've never read any of the novels, but I've read a bunch of the comics and the collectible books like Lara's Book, The Art of Virtual Seduction, etc. Also the fan-created comic series Tales of Lara Croft. It's great--and it led me to the illustrator who did the banners on my site, Ramiel.

  3. No, I never read any. I would like to try, it would be a different approach to the franchise. Tough the games are the staple

  4. I read all of the comic books, including the Witchblade crossovers, and they were utterly horrid.

  6. I've read the 3 official novels, but it was so long ago I've forgotten everything about them. I've read some of the comics and again I've forgotten the plots completely. I remember the sexy Lara artwork though - probably no longer thought of as suitable. My favourite book is "The Official Tomb Raider Files: Featuring Lara Croft" authored by Susie Hamilton in 2001, still available from Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/184222378X/ref=asc_df_184222378X4358073?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&tag=googlecouk06-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22206&creativeASIN=184222378X), which the newbies to the Laraverse could do with reading, especially those who argue that Lara didn't used to have a characterisation under Core and that the reboot is finally giving her a character :)

  7. I've tried reading the comics, but I always manage to get one that's in the middle of a complex storyline and I'm clueless as to what's going on. I wouldn't mind having the Compendium either, if only for the artwork.

I've got a lot of the collectible books (Lara's Book, The Art of Virtual Seduction, The Official Tomb Raider Files, The Angel Of Darkness Companion) and I like to buy the old game guides if I find them, for nostalgia more than anything. It's always so funny to read people raving about the updated graphics in Tomb Raider 2. :D

I'd really enjoyed the three Tomb Raider books they brought out after Angel Of Darkness; "The Amulet of Power", "The Lost Cult" and "The Man of Bronze". They're a fun, light read with plenty of action and plot to keep you interested. Also, The Lost Cult has a brilliant line: "The idea of having fans struck Lara as a bit absurd - she wasn't a pop star, after all - but people sometimes picked strange idols."

  12. read nearly all the comics (kind of sorry to say, since the art makes Lara look cheap, and the stories/dialogue feel so Americanized). However, it is Tomb Raider, and so I've been kind of completist about her stories/adventures. I'm pretty sure it was Lara's Book that I also read.

  13. Actually .. I didn't even knew there were books. I enjoy reading and love to read books of other interests of mine (Star Wars, The X-FileS) so if I ever find them I'll buy them.

The comics I knew about but I've never really been interested in comics.

  15. I actually own many of the official walkthroughs,
but only for collector reasons. When I needed help,
I went to Stella! They (official WTs) are sometimes good
for locating a certain level or moment, when memory
fails me. Aside from that, have one TR/WitchBlade comic.
    That is all.

  16. I haven't read any books and that Art of Seduction sounds inappropriately creepy!!

...I have read the game manuals, so I'm hoping that counts! :P

  17. I am not sure if I've read all comics, there are so many (including some crossovers), but I've read most of them (the last was when I found a reprint of "Scarface's Treasure" in a German comic book, although I have the original comic twice, it is a special limited edition I can not unpack. ;-) I have also read the three novels, but they were nowhere as good as the games.

  18. I haven't read any, but because I can't! It would be great to have this books in a pdf or kindle format 'cause paperback books sold in amazon are so very impossible for me due to distance issues.

So please, if anyone has an electronic version of any Tomb Raider book, contact me or send them to my e-mail: ubaldosevilla@yahoo.com

Thnaks to Stella, for such a Tomb raider "dedicated page"
